Seward Trunk® has been continually manufacturing trunks in Petersburg, Virginia since 1878.

The products are manufactured in Petersburg, Virginia.

Our trunks and footlockers are built in the United States. They contain both domestic and foreign parts. Some of our footlockers are certified Berry compliant.

Some trunks are made using solid wood boards and others are made using medium-density fiberboard (MDF). MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure. It is made up of separated fibers, but can be used as a building material similar in application to plywood. It is stronger and denser than plywood and particle board. Some varieties are less than expensive than many natural woods, so this allows for a more affordable product for our customers.

The California Air Resources Board (“CARB”) requires all finished goods manufactured with composite wood to be labeled. All Seward Trunks are Phase 2 CARB compliant. For more information, please visit CARB’s website at: https://ww2.arb.ca.gov

Proposition 65, otherwise known as “The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986” is a California law that requires the State of California to keep a list of chemicals that it has identified may cause cancer or other reproductive harm. This warning label must appear on products sold in California if they contain chemicals on the Proposition 65 list. There are many commonly used items that fall under the State of California’s Prop 65 mandates. All Seward Trunk® products are made from materials that comply with federal safety laws, however, as there are many chemicals used throughout the manufacturing processes, our products may contain a trace amount of one or more of the 850+ chemicals on the California Proposition 65 warning list.

Sitting on your trunk occasionally shouldn't hurt the trunk, especially if the trunk is full, however the it is not intended to be used regularly as a piece of furniture.

Above the slot where the key goes in, there is a black plastic button. Push the button down and pull back on the hasp at the same time. Click here for more information and an instructional video.

Most of our lockers use a locking hasp and push button mechanism and come with 2 standard keys. A consumer supplied padlock can also be used to secure the trunk.
